The region lies on the eastern side of central Italy, between the Adriatic Sea and the high Apennine mountains and much of it remains unspoilt by the ravages of mass tourism. Particularly, the Marches provide a beautiful and diversified countryside with valleys and mountains up to 2400m. You will enjoy the hospitality of the people who saved the old romance of an agricultural lifestyle. This lineament is embodied in the community of Mergo in the province of Ancona, a dreamily piece of Italy.
The Marches border on Emilia Romagna, Umbrien, the Toskana, the Abruzzen and on Lazium and luckily are not as famous as their bordering region so that you can live there in harmony and silence.

The Adriatic coast has been a mecca for "sun n' sand" holiday makers for decades; but few venture far from the beaches.
Inland, perhaps more so than anywhere else in central Italy, you will find places where time really has stood still. The culture comes in easily digestible proportions but its quality is often the very best. A lot of famous characters like Raffael, Rossini, Pergolesi and Friedrich II. are chained with this landscape. |
